Edwardian Elegance - Interior Design Project
This Edwardian apartment already had so much going for it — high ceilings, generous proportions, and beautiful architectural details that gave it instant charm. However, with a new arrival on the way, the space needed to work a little harder for a growing family. What was once a spacious two-bedroom home now needed to become a practical and welcoming three-bedroom apartment.
Our design team put their heads together and came up with a clever solution. The kitchen was relocated into a large, light-filled room, allowing us to create an open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area — all in one stunning space. Because the room was so expansive, it worked beautifully.
To make the new layout possible, we raised the kitchen area slightly so that water and waste could run out through the apartment’s existing route, as planning regulations didn’t allow for new plumbing. What started as a practical necessity ended up adding character — the split levels brought depth, drama, and a lovely sense of flow to the space.
By moving the kitchen, we were able to free up enough room for three comfortable bedrooms and a family bathroom, all connected by a spacious hallway. We had a bit of fun here, adding a playful illusion wallpaper that gives the effect of looking through to a greenhouse — a whimsical touch that ties the old and new together perfectly.
