Victorian Vintage - Interior Design Project
When I first stepped into this Victorian apartment, I was captivated by its generous proportions, high ceilings, and ornate fireplaces — the kind of architectural details that tell a story. My goal was to honour that history while infusing the space with the warmth, colour, and joyful character of 1970s design, creating a home that feels both timeless and full of life.
One of the key transformations was the reconfiguration of the large master bedroom area. An internal wall was added to improve flow and privacy, allowing access to a second bedroom without compromising the apartment’s open feel. The adjoining hallway now features a vintage dressing table — a subtle nod to old-world glamour that also enhances the sense of spaciousness. When desired, the French doors between the rooms can be opened, allowing the entire area to function as one large, flexible space.
We removed the original sash window and replaced it with a pair of custom-designed French doors, providing direct access to the garden. These doors were carefully crafted in wood to complement the existing sash windows and to meet local conservation area regulations — ensuring that the new addition feels authentic, considered, and in harmony with the building’s heritage. the new doors feel as though they have always belonged.
